The Family Jameson

Chapter 0 - Introduction

Up

It was that time of year again. Christmas. Normally a happy time. For most people. The Jameson's included.

The tradition had been to gather at 'The Parents', outside Washington. Or at least those that could manage it. Busy lives and all that. From all over they would come. Arriving a day or two before the big day. As much of the Jameson clan as could make it. Seldom even half made it. But usually it was a different lot each year. So Mother was usually satisfied. Besides, where would they all stay if everyone had turned up. No, the usual six or seven at the one time was more than enough.

Mother, Amanda Jameson. A strong woman. Had to be. Raising fourteen children wasn't easy. Not when Dad was away for months at a time on some posting or another. The older ones grew up fast. Had to be too. They needed to either help Mother or move out to make room for the youngest. The latest was that little runt, Alan. He was about nine by then. He would have had the closest to a normal upbringing of the lot of them. The next youngest, Peter, had moved out by the time Alan was four. Yes, Mother was a strong woman. Giving birth to fourteen children over twenty years wasn't easy.
